About this blog
This blog will detail the time I spend playing Star Wars: The Old Republic. I’ll probably talk some about my class mechanics and some about my guild and the leadership of it. I may get wild and crazy from time to time and even review an addon or talk about a strategy.
The blog name is obviously a play on “A New Hope,” and dope does not, in this case, have any recreational pharmaceutical connotations. While I have watched all of the Star Wars movies, I never played SWG, and my grasp on the game mechanics from reading about them is pretty shaky right now. I guess I am more of hands-on person.
I usually manage to bumble around and make a bit of an ass of myself in new situations, so A New Dope seemed to encapsulate my lack of experience with both gaming in the Star Wars universe and my propensity to miss the obvious.
About the Author
What is there to say about me? I’m married to a gamer and we spend a lot of time together hanging out at our home office, killing things online. Occasionally we’ll play the Wii and we’ve even been known to go outside once in a while to enjoy the great outdoors.
We also both really enjoy reading and are food enthusiasts.
Gaming History
The bulk of my gaming experience lies in console and PC games. I also have a severe weakness for those little puzzle or time management games you can download from just about anywhere online.
My first and only MMO before SW:TOR was World of Warcraft. I started WoW in Vanilla and grew very gradually into a more serious player from the absolute bumbling fool I was when I began. I cut my teeth on raiding in Burning Crusade and allowed myself to be entrapped into the various roles of raid leader, officer and eventually a guild leader.
That willingness to take responsibility for things has carried over to Star Wars, where I am Co-GM of my guild.
I tend to like roles where I can be a damage dealer of some sort or another. In WoW, I played a pure dps class and in Civilization, I tended to viciously attack the AI civs and win through conquest. My murderous notions have carried over into SW:TOR.
All of which explains why I decided to first try a Sage, specced into Telekinetics. The Trooper Vanguard has also been an absolute riot, but I look forward to eventually trying a little bit of everything.
